2024 South Florida CEDS Annual Draft Report
Public Comment Period
Every year, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) mandates that the Council submit an annual Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) report update. This report offers a detailed overview of our region’s economic development trends and the progress made by the Council and regional partners in fostering economic resilience through our diverse activities, programs, and initiatives aligned with CEDS implementation. The report covers activities and updates from October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. The report is now available for public review and comment on our website for a 30-day review period (ending November 21). The CEDS highlights key economic challenges and opportunities facing Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties and its population of 4.7 million residents.
The CEDS also contains an articulation of the key issues and strategic direction the region’s leaders should pursue to advance economic development, equitable access to opportunity, and prosperity in South Florida in the future.
What is CEDS?
The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for South Florida is a roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy of Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The regional CEDS will guide federal and state investment priorities and funding sources and delineate lead organizations’ responsibilities for execution of the CEDS, while bringing together public and private sectors leaders and decision-makers. This is not a plan for the Council; rather, it is a strategy for the communities and businesses of South Florida.

How will the CEDS be used?
Education – the documents will be used to engage elected officials and business leaders to help amplify the vision and provide support through actions.
Invest – the strategy will be used to leverage greater investment in the region by providing data and rationale that can be used to obtain grants to fund implementation and align federal and states’ legislative agendas to collaboratively solicit funding.
Collaborate – the work will engage organizations and departments within jurisdictions to break down silos and leverage resources to the greatest extent possible to elevate one another’s work.
CEDS 2022 – 2027
The South Florida Regional Planning Council has completed its 5-year update of the CEDS for 2022-2027. The SFRPC is continuing its work on the implementation process. Meeting information, and news coverage of the completion announcement is provided below.
