The South Florida Regional Planning Council has released the following recent reports examining the impacts of active transportation investments in Miami-Dade County:

Impacts of Pedestrian and Bicycle Infrastructure on Safety, Health, and Economic Growth in Miami-Dade County
This study evaluates how expanding Miami-Dade County’s pedestrian and bicycling network can improve safety, public health, and economic vitality. Grounded in the concept of “bikeconomics,” the report integrates a literature review, crash-exposure analysis, a health-impact assessment (HIA), and a 25-year benefit-cost analysis (BCA) to quantify returns on proposed infrastructure investments and to guide policy and funding priorities.

Shared-Use Non-Motorized (SUN) Trail Economic Impacts in Miami-Dade County (July 2025)
This report evaluates the economic, health, and property-value impacts of three Miami-Dade County SUN Trail segments – the Atlantic Greenway, the South Dade Trail, and The Underline – and conducts a benefit-cost analysis (BCA) of these investments. It quantifies lifecycle costs (initial construction and discounted maintenance over 25 years), as well as a range of benefits: jobs and output from construction, property-value premiums (tax revenues), trail-user spending and consumer surplus, and healthcare savings from increased physical activity.
