Two of South Florida’s three PBS television stations have agreed to merge.

WPBT2, which serves Miami-Dade and Broward counties, and WXEL-TV in Palm Beach County, will become South Florida PBS, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The merger will create the largest public media company in Florida.

Combined, the two stations can pool resources and fundraising efforts to offer more programming, including locally produced shows.

The proposed merger must be approved by the Federal Communication Commission.

The third, separate, PBS station is WLRN, which operates out of the Miami-Dade School Board.
