Hollywood, FL – The South Florida Regional Planning Council (SFRPC) gave a warm welcome to newly elected executive committee members for 2019.

Chaired by Mayor Greg Ross of Cooper City, the Mayor is joined on the executive committee by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, 1st Vice Chair; Broward County Commissioner Steve Geller, 2nd Vice Chair; Gubernatorial appointee Mario Bailey, Treasurer; and Key West City Commissioner Samuel Kaufman, Secretary.  This new committee will serve until January 2020 and each member will rotate positions.

The Council’s top priority is the funding for affordable housing and requests that the region’s public, private, non-profit and philanthropic institutions adopt this important regional issue as well. In South Florida, the majority of residents use 50% of their income towards housing while the national standard is 30% of income. The rising costs of housing impacts health, stress, employment and educational achievement for families with children.

SFRPC recognized the dedication and commitment of outgoing members including 2018 Chair Frank Caplan (former Key Biscayne Commissioner) and 2017 Chair Tim Daubert (former Town of Miami Lakes Commissioner), who served as the Miami-Dade League of Cities municipal appointees to the board.

A new face on our board is City of Key West Commissioner Samuel Kaufman, who holds the Secretary position. He replaces City of Key West Commissioner Jimmy Weekley who retired in January of 2018. Both Commissioner Weekley and Monroe County Commissioner George Neugent were honored at the February board meeting in Monroe County. Also, Mayor Joseph Corradino of Pinecrest serves the SFRPC as the Miami-Dade League of Cities appointee, replacing outgoing Councilmember Tim Daubert.
