The 2022 Climate Adaptation Plan Progress Report describes some of our recent efforts to respond to this crisis, but we know that we have much more work to do. In the years ahead, the countries that are the most resilient and best prepared to manage the effects of climate change will gain significant security advantages.

Miami Beach – A ULI Advisory Services Panel Report – April 2018

The city of Miami Beach has shown an impressive commitment in the last few years to addressing these flooding vulnerabilities, including identifying the funding for and beginning execution of a projected $600 million stormwater management program, sourcing financing independently of federal and state funds.

The 2021 South Florida Environmental Report (SFER) documents an important year of restoration, scientific, and engineering accomplishments in the Kissimmee Basin, Lake Okeechobee, Everglades, and South Florida coastal areas. The report also provides extensive peer reviewed research summaries, data analyses, financial updates, and a searchable database of environmental projects. The report covers environmental information for Water Year 2020 (WY2020; May 1, 2019–April 30, 2020) and project budgetary information for the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD or District) Fiscal Year 2020 (FY2020; October 1, 2019–September 30, 2020).

US Army Corps of Engineers – Miami-Dade County Coastal Storm Risk Management – July 2022

This study investigates alternatives for a plan that addresses these vulnerabilities, as well as provides incidental opportunities for maintaining recreation and habitat along the shoreline of Miami-Dade County, Florida. This study only evaluates the Atlantic Ocean shoreline, it does not evaluate the coastal storm risks of the interior back bay shorelines of the barrier islands or the Miami-Dade County mainland.

Florida Oceans and Coastal Council – Climate Change and Sea Level Rise in Florida – December 2010

The scope and depth of climate research have grown rapidly with important new work in and about Florida. To recognize and disseminate the latest findings and their implications for managing the state’s ocean and coastal resources, the FOCC undertook this update of one driver, sea-level rise, with the expectation that updates for increasing greenhouse gases, air temperature, and ocean temperature may be released in subsequent years.
