The City of Miami Beach, as a barrier island off the coast of Florida, is witnessing first-hand the effects of climate change, sea level rise, saltwater intrusion, flooding, king tides, and extreme storm events. In addressing these challenges, the City has become a pioneer in developing, evaluating and implementing innovative climate mitigation and adaptation strategies.

City of Coral Gables Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory

In 2014, the City of Coral Gables began a Sustainability Master Plan (SMP) and implementation process. As part of this process, RS&H prepared the first Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions inventory and forecast for the city’s Local Government Operations (LGO) as well as for the community as a whole (Community).

Miami-Dade County Plan of Action Report – A Risk Based Approach to Septic Systems Vulnerable to Sea Level Rise – December 2020

This report has the objective of recommending the approach and immediate actions to address vulnerable septic systems. It will be followed by further analyses and updates to the Board of County Commissioners, including a prioritization methodology in the context of a comprehensive framework to support impactful and cost effective solutions for the environment and our community.

City of Aventura Annual Progress Report – Local Mitigation Strategy December 2020

The five year update of the strategy was issued by the County in July, 2020 and adopted by the City through Resolution No. 2020-64 on September 8, 2020. The strategy acts as the City’s Floodplain Management Plan for NFIP purposes. The LMS is updated on a five year cycle. The current LMS is approved by FEMA for a period of five years, to September 15, 2025.
