Commissioner Beam Furr Receives Broward League of Cities’ Samuel Goren President’s Award

Hollywood, FL -Broward League of Cities awarded Broward County Commissioner Beam Furr with the 2019 Samuel S. Goren President’s Award during the 62nd Annual Gala held on May 18, 2019.  This is the highest ranked leadership award given by the League recognizing commitment and contribution from an individual to the organization and its membership.

Commissioner Furr is not only an active and valued board member of the South Florida Regional Planning Council (SFRPC), but he has served as a County Commissioner in District Six since 2014 and as Mayor of Broward County from 2017 to 2018. His previous experience includes serving as a Commissioner for the City of Hollywood District 2 for 12 years and was a public-school teacher for 26 years.

Isabel Cosio Carballo, Executive Director of SFRPC, said, “We extend our congratulations to Commissioner Furr for his dedication to Broward County communities. His commitment is evident as he plays an active role on the Council by being engaged in important issues including the coral reef restoration, affordable housing, and economic growth.”

The League of Cities’ President’s Award was renamed in 2017 to honor Sam Goren’s service as general counsel to the Broward League for more than 30 years.
