Ex-Officio Member, Department of Environmental Protection Representative

Jennifer Smith is the Director of the Southeast District of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Jennifer came to the Director’s position after serving as Assistant Director and as Program Administrator for the Submerged Lands & Environmental Resources Program in the Southeast District.   She began her career at the Southeast District in the Storage Tanks program in 2002 and moved to the Environmental Resources Program in 2003.  She has overseen the permitting, monitoring and design of upwards of 40,000 projects throughout the Southeast District in her 14 years at DEP. Jennifer earned a Bachelor Degree in Biology from Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio, and moved to South Florida to attend Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center in Dania Beach for the Master Degree program in Coastal Zone Management.
